A Colourful History of Chocolate:
The Maya peoples were the first to consume chocolate (that we know of) and consumed it as a drink in much the same way as we do today. This was believed to be in the period from 250 -900 AD.
The Mayan people also used cacao beans as a form of currency. 10 beans would buy you a rabbit and 100 beans a slave.
The first solid chocolate was prepared in the 1850’s.
