Fennel Seeds (100g)

The fennel seed comes from the fennel herb and is a smooth digestive with a sweet anise like flavour. It has been celebrated for its medicinal properties in many regions of the world but particularly in its birth place – The Mediterranean. Fennel seeds can be consumed whole or ground in either savoury or sweet recipes.

Fennel is a natural calming seed, which means it can calm the mind as well as the muscles in the digestive tract, reducing colic and wind. It can also reduce a fever, increase milk flow in breast-feeding mothers and cleanse the kidneys.

Rich in dietary fibre, which adds to it digestive properties, the seed is a power packed source of many vitamins and minerals including Vitamins A, C, E and some B vitamins, as well as being rich in copper, iron, calcium and potassium.

Fennel seeds should be stored in an air tight container, in a cool, dry location.

Fennel seed is a common ingredient in loose tea blends, like chai or lactation teas, but can also be steeped and enjoyed on its own. We recommend combining fennel seed with peppermint, chamomile and licorice for a delicious and supportive digestive blend.

Fennel also brings a beautiful flavour when added to casseroles, soups and curries, and is a popular dry rub for meats (whole or ground).
